HOLY CROSS UPDATE — July 17, 2020

THE SHEM TOV HEBREW GOSPEL OF MATTHEW

The video (and the audio podcast) of Hebrew Gospel Pearls #4  is now available free Online. In Hebrew Gospel Pearls #4, Nehemia Gordon and Keith Johnson discuss why Yehovah's [Anglicized as Jehovah’s] name is missing from the Greek New Testament, how a curious word in Greek leads to ambiguity, and the identity of the "angel of the Lord”.

You all know the respect that I have for both Nehemia Gordon and Kieth Johnson as Bible teachers. This is a 44 minute Bible study that you will not want to miss!!!

THE ROCK, THE ROAD, and THE RABBI — My Journey into the Heart of Scriptural Faith and the Land Where It All Began, by Kathie Lee Gifford with [Messianic] Rabbi Jason Sobel.

I bought a copy of this book at Parables just before the Covid-19 pandemic forced the suspension of public Services back in March. I read it a couple of months ago, enjoyed it immensely, and found it to be a blessing — and I want to recommend it to you!

You are probably familiar with Kathy Lee Gifford. She is a four-time Emmy Award winner, is best known for her eleven years cohosting the popular fourth hour of the Today show alongside Hoda Kotb. Kathy Lee Gifford continues to pursue her dreams as an actress, singer, songwriter, playwright, producer, and most recently, director. She has authored numerous books, including her most recent children’s book, The Gift That I Can Give, and four New York Times bestselling books, including The Rock, the Road, and the Rabbi. She is the wife of the late Frank Gifford who starred on the field in the NFL and off the field as a popular sports broadcaster.

What you may not know is that Kathy Lee Gifford is a Jewish Christian (Messianic Jew) and a lifetime student of the Scriptures. She has been traveling to Israel since she was 17 years old. She even missed her high school graduation so she could attend the first Jerusalem Conference on Biblical Prophecy in 1971.

Through her book, The Rock, The Road, and The Rabbi you can Journey with Kathie Lee Gifford into Israel—and into the Deep Roots of the Christian Faith.

In a continuation of her love for the Holy Land — the Land of Israel — The Rock, The Road and The Rabbi will take you to greater depths of understanding than the typical teaching found in most churches today. The book includes photos of the Biblical sites in Israel, and stories of what happened there — including a lot of behind the scenes information that will revolutionize your understanding of Holy Writ. And at the end of every chapter Messianic Rabbi Jason Sobel takes you even deeper into the understanding of Hebrew culture, , language, and the means of connection that opens up an understanding of faith and heritage like never before.

The Rock, The Road and The Rabbi was published in 2018, by Thomas Nelson. It is just over 200 pages, and is written in non-technical language. It is an easy and very enjoyable read. This is a book that everyone can enjoy and benefit from.

The list price is $26.99, BUT as I am writing this, Amazon has it on sale in hardcover for only $7.88!!! My copy is a paperback, and it is already getting beat up from use! You can get it in hardcover for less than I paid for paperback. You can even get it on Kindle for only $2.99.

Buy the book, or buy the Kindle ebook, but buy this book. It will touch your heart, open your eyes, lift your spirit, and bless your soul. Here is the Amazon link:

JOURNEY WITH US TO THE FIRST CENTURY

There are a lot of people on the same journey as we are back to the first century. How do I know that? Because The Rock, The Road, and the Rabbi is a New York Times best seller!

On the back cover of Kathy Lee Gifford’s book she has a quote from Jeremiah 6:16:

“This is what the LORD says: ‘Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls.’”

While most Christians are still stuck in the Reformation/Counter Reformation debates of 500 years ago, or are focused on the events of the 11th century, or the 4th century, we know that “the faith was once delivered” (Jude 3) in the FIRST century. We will find the fullness of the apostolic faith in Second Temple Judaism and in the first century Jesus movement — and nowhere else. Yeshua, Jesus, all of his apostles, and all of the writers of the Biblical books, both Old and New Covenant, were Israelites/Jews, and Apostolic Christianity is nothing less than Judeo-Christianity.

We have stood at the crossroads and looked, and have asked for the ancient paths (Jeremiah 6:16). We have much to learn and some things to unlearn, but we are on the ancient paths. Come and journey with us!

BREAKING ISRAEL NEWS — Judean Rabbi Defends Christians as Tsunami of "Anti-God" Attacks Targets Churches in America

Churches and synagogues around the country are being vandalized, but a Rabbi in Judea is responding with a call “for believers in God to band together and stand up for each other.”

This article was published today. You can read all about it here:

This “Tsunami of "Anti-God" Attacks” targeting churches and synagogues has been going on for months now, but the mainstream media does not seem to want to cover it. You often have to turn to the foreign press to get the facts. More than two months ago the Israeli press published a detailed article titled,

'God is Dead': US rioters vandalize churches and synagogues

You need to read this shocking article. Here is the link:

The Holy Scriptures tell us that in the Latter Days Christians and Jews will endure world-wide persecution. The Scriptures warn that in the Latter Days there will be a great falling away, an apostasy on an unheard-of scale; but we are also told that there will be an outpouring of the Latter Rain of God’s Holy Spirit and a great restoration and revival among the remnant of God’s people who keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus. This will also be a time of pestilences, wars and rumors of wars, and societal upheaval, as God removes his protecting hand from a world in rebellion and apostasy. The Signs of the Times are unfolding all around us. Yeshua/Jesus  says, “Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near” (Luke 21:28).

SUNDAY SERVICES — 9:00 AM

Everyone is invited to join us on Sunday morning at 9:00 AM for Morning Prayer (Matins/shacharit).

The English Office Noted and the 1928 Book of Common Prayer (which are essentially the same) are the Service books we use at Holy Cross. Sunday, July 19th, is the seventh Sunday after Pentecost. The Psalms used will be the Psalms for the 19th Day at Morning Prayer. The Venite is omitted because it is the 19th of the month and we will be praying Psalms 95 and 96.  The Canticles will be the Te deum, and the Benedictus. The Psalms and Canticles will be recited responsively.

It is important that we all work together in following the CDC guidelines to keep everyone safe during the pandemic.

We will all need to maintain at least six (6) feet of social distancing between households; and everyone should wear a face mask unless there is a medical issue preventing it, in order to reduce the spread of droplets from our breath. Services will be said rather than sung because we would need more social distancing for singing.

We have closed a number of pews so every pew open for use will be separated by a closed pew or an isle. The back pew is open and may be used. We will need to do our very best to maintain social distancing so worshippers will need to spread out. Each pew is approximately ten feet long, so it may be possible for people to sit on opposite ends while maintaining social distancing.

The restroom in the chapel has been closed. Should anyone need to use a restroom, the restroom in the parish hall will be available. Please avoid entering the parish hall unless to use the bathroom.

There will be no fellowship and refreshments after Services at this time.

While I have always encouraged the faithful to arrive early for Services in the past, I ask you not to do so under the present circumstances. Please plan to arrive just in time for Services. This will aid in social distancing and limit personal interaction. You will also want to leave immediately at the conclusion of Services.

If you are not feeling well or may have been exposed to Covid-19 please stay home. No one should enter the building who has a fever, cough, is sneezing, has body aches, may have been exposed to the Coronavirus, or is just not feeling well. We all need to be cautious and protect one another. Thank you!

Everyone is invited, and visitors are always welcome. We are a faithful and friendly congregation, and we have a place for you!
