THE FAITH ONCE DELIVERED RADIO BROADCAST — Saturdays at 9:30 AM CDT

THE FAITH ONCE DELIVERED RADIO BROADCAST — Our Roots Run Deep

On The Faith Once Delivered radio broadcast we have begun a new series called, The English Spiritual Tradition — Our Roots Run Deep.

Did you know that the Gospel arrived in the British Isles in the year 37 CE. — only six years after the death and resurrection of the Messiah Jesus —  and that it arrived in Britain directly from the Holy Land? Our spiritual roots are in Second Temple Judaism. When Augustine and his  Roman mission arrived in Britain in the year 597 CE, he was surprised to discover a thriving, indigenous Christian community there.

That community however was very different from the tradition that he was familiar with. The faith of the British Christians could best be described as Judeo-Christianity. They kept the Commandments of God and the faith of Jesus, emphasizing the importance of the Decalogue given by God to Moses our teacher on Mount Sinai, and they were Quartodecimans keeping the Passover or Pascha (Easter) on the 14th day of the first Biblical month with the Jews as commanded in the Holy Scriptures.

In 740 CE the Venerable Bede, an Englishman but an advocate of submission to the Roman State Church, wrote: “The Britons are contrary to the whole Roman world and enemies to Roman customs.” (Bede, Bk. 2, C. 23).

Joseph of Arimathea, the man who buried Jesus in his own new tomb, along with his Jewish companions brought the Gospel to Britain in the first half of the first century. Gildas (Albanicus) the Wise (425-512 CE), the noted British scholar and historian wrote, “Christ, the True Sun, afforded his light, the knowledge of his precepts, to our Island in the last year, as we know, of Tiberius Caesar” (De Excidio Britanniae, Sec. 8, p. 25).

The  last year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar was in the year 37 CE, only six years after the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus! The Messianic faith was planted in the British Isles years before it penetrated the city of Rome, and 951 years before the baptism of Russia in the east.

Want to learn more? Saturday morning, June 20th we will be teaching on the mission of Joseph of Arimathea to the British Isles and the earliest history of the  Messianic community there on The Faith Once Delivered radio broadcast. You won’t want to miss the broadcast so be sure to tune in!

NEXT WEEK ON THE FAITH ONCE DELIVERED — Our Incomparable Liturgy

On Saturday, June 27th The Faith Once Delivered radio broadcast will be about our incomparable English liturgy.

In his 1946 book, Our National Liturgy — The Book of Common Prayer, English author Alfred Faith writes,

“The Liturgy of the Book of Common Prayer is the Liturgy of one people, and one people only, namely Israel. The book becomes meaningless unless used by members of the Israel family. The whole structure of the book is orientated to Israel,…

“We are either of Israel by descent or we are Israel by adoption, for, as St. Paul says, ‘If ye be Christ’s then are ye Abraham’s seed and heirs according to the promise’ (Galatians 3:29). Christ came to confirm the promises made to the fathers (Romans 15:8). Christian, of whatever race you may be, if indeed ye are in Christ, then you are one with Israel, and are privileged to inherit the blessings and to share in the responsibilities of the covenants. How God’s promise to Abram rings out: ‘And in thee shall all the families of the earth be blessed’ (Genesis 12:3)… we have been made sons of God (I John 3:2), and that our bounden duty and service is to offer ourselves to God for service, no matter how humble and trivial our part may be in the establishing of His Kingdom upon the earth; taking our share in bringing to fruition that age-long purpose of our Heavenly Father, the consummation of which is to bring the whole world into one great family, and that an Israel family, and God the Father of all.

“‘And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God’ (Revelation 21:2-3).”
