Great Britain is not only the Mother Country of the United States of America, but Holy Cross Parish is part of the English Spiritual Tradition. We value and cherish our English and Celtic cultural, liturgical and spiritual heritage and patrimony, — and we have a lot to celebrate!
On January 31, Brexit became a reality as the United Kingdom freed herself from the shackles of the European Union once and for all, and restored her national sovereignty; and yesterday was the 68th anniversary of the ascension of Queen Elizabeth II to the throne.
Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II ascended the throne on February 6, 1952. She is the longest reigning monarch in English history.
The Queen does not celebrate the day she ascended the throne given it is the anniversary of her father’s death. The celebrations are instead held for the anniversary of Coronation day, which followed more than a year later on June 2, 1953 in Westminster Abbey. On the 68th anniversary of her ascension, for the first time in many years, she was not a subject of the European Union thanks to Brexit and the restoration of English sovereignty.
This past week or so has been an important time for the members and friends of Holy Cross parish. We have much to celebrate, and there will be a celebration in the parish hall after the Holy Eucharist on Sunday. You will not want to miss it!
With the new Russia-Red China-Iran Axis of Evil rising up in the world it is reassuring that the United States and the United Kingdom are once more standing shoulder to shoulder as beacons of hope in a dark and dangerous world.
The British Commonwealth of Nations, of which Queen Elizabeth II is head, consists of 54 nations with a population of 2.4 billion people — more than 1 in 3 of the world’s population.
Her Majesty's Armed Forces are the military services responsible for the defense of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, its overseas territories and the Crown dependencies. They also promote Britain's wider interests, support international peacekeeping efforts and provide humanitarian aid.
A new report says the United Kingdom is the world’s second most powerful nation after the United Staes. The study describes the UK as “a truly global power” which has the ability to “project and extend itself …around the world.” Thankfully, Great Britain is ranked ahead of both Red China and Russia.
